PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
Dr. Wael Darweish is an Egyptian contemporary visual artist and Full Professor of Art Education. For more than three decades, he has developed a multidisciplinary practice spanning painting, installation, video art, mixed media, and drawing. His work investigates memory, disappearance, human presence, identity, and the psychological relationship between people and place, creating visual narratives that move between reality and imagination.
Darweish has presented twenty-three solo exhibitions and participated in more than one hundred international exhibitions, biennials, museums, art fairs, and symposia across Europe, the Middle East, North America, Asia, and Africa. His work has been exhibited at the 55th Venice Biennale (Maldives Pavilion), Kunstmuseum Bonn, and numerous international institutions, galleries, and museums.
His artworks are held in public and private collections, including the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Copelouzos Family Art Museum (Athens), and other international collections. His work has also appeared in international auctions and has been featured in numerous publications and media platforms dedicated to contemporary art.
Alongside his artistic practice, Darweish has built an extensive academic career in higher education, combining research, teaching, and artistic production. His professional activities integrate studio practice with critical inquiry, contributing to contemporary visual culture through exhibitions, publications, international collaborations, and academic leadership.
